Their bread is buttered by keeping their anti-American, and thus, anti-Israel, credits in good order with the Arabs.

Sure... but they are only one party within NATO and I don't see them opposing such a plan within the UNSC..

And sure they are going to play the role of Palestinian advocate. But preventing them from becoming a spoiler to a settlement, it will require careful consultation and multi-lateral agreements to what the actual NATO mission will be (and its limits).

Frances position within NATO has been drastically diluted by the addition of 7 new members. If they don't want to play nice and concur with the plans of the general NATO operation, they always have the right not to participate.

Again, I haven't seen you provide a credible scenario that won't result in utter chaos within the territories and outright fighting between Islamists and Fatah, with the average palestinian caught in the middle..

Do you think the international community could stand by and permit that to happen?

I don't think so... And it will be impossible for Israel to intervene with any credibility..

Not without a war of conquest in hostile urban territory.

Conquest? Come on... stop with the non-sensical rhetoric... I expect far more from you than some kind of GST or Jacobian style comments..

The only thing that will have to be conquered are the armed gangs of Islamist who will never satisfied with any form of Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement..

Someone's going to have to conquer them... And if it comes down to Israel having to do it, it will only make it even more difficult to bring progressive change to the entire region..

Can't you see that.. honestly?

The entire idea is a non-starter, if not frankly insane.

No.. what's insane is believing that Israel can use its military force to create a lasting and trusting peace between Palestinians and Jews.

There will be far too much long-lasting resentment if it's perceived that any peace settlement was the result of be imposed by Jews upon Arabs.

What's even more insane is permitting the continuing Palestinian-Israeli conflict to fuel the flames of Islamic militancy throughout the region..

I think Tom Friedman and Stephen Cohen are actually right on this issue.. We cannot continue to permit this conflict to continue providing a convenient excuse for the region to avoid progressive change.
