I can assert unequivocally and without the slightest pang that unions have outlived their usefulness. I don't know what excesses you're talking about. It all seems like excess to me. Unions as an institution have evolved to where they serve the union-entity first and foremost. If the workers get anything out of their membership, that's incidental. At best the union-entity is wasteful overhead. I would be interested in reading what you see as cost-efffective added value. In a lifetime of looking I have been able to find none.
