Zelikow tells the truth, but gets it backassward
Philip Zelikow, Bush insider and director of the 9/11 commission, did something remarkable: he told the truth, a rarity for Bushites. "Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us? I'll tell you what I think the real threat (is) and actually has been since 1990 -- it's the threat against Israel," Zelikow told a crowd at the University of Virginia on September. 10, 2002, speaking on a panel of foreign policy experts assessing the impact of 9/11 and the future of the war on the al-Qaeda terrorist organization, writes Emad Mekay. Of course, after a stupid war with Iran (encouraged by Washington), Bush Senior's brutal invasion in 1991, and a decade of vicious sanctions, Iraq was incapable of attacking anybody, least of all the Israelis. But then reality is lost on Christian Zionists and their clash of civilization bedfellows at the neocon think tanks and Zionist foundations. Bush and his Zionist cronies sold the war on the completely illogical pretext that Saddam had big old nasty nukes and bio weapons and he was itching to use them against Americans. Remarkably, millions of hoodwinked Americans snatched this fantasy hook, line, and fifty pound sinker. Now we're told the invasion was conducted so the Iraqis may taste democracy. Both are fantastic and utterly implausible lies. Yes, Virginia, Iraqi was invaded at the behest of Israel, but not because it posed a threat to the Zionist state, but rather because the plan is to completely emasculate the Arab Middle East. It's an old idea, really, one that predates Israel itself. Not so much divide and conquer, but divide and sow chaos. If you want to see what Israel and the Bush neocons have in mind for the Arabs, look at Iraq -- ethnic violence and civil war, all of it sponsored by the United States and Britain. There will be no pan-Arab threat against Israel if the Arabs are pinned down fighting each other over post-colonial crumbs. Idiot journalists have lately made a lot of noise about how badly things are going in Iraq. But things are not going bad in Iraq -- things are right on schedule. The Christian Zionists and Likudites know exactly what they are doing and the next target is Syria in the early months of a second Bush administration -- or even a Kerry administration, as unlikely as that is, because Kerry is an unabashed Zionist as well. In Washington, it is all Zionists, all the time. But it will not work out as planned, not exactly. One big mistake made by fascists is they usually under estimate the will of people to resist tyranny and colonialism. It took the British more than a hundred years to figure this out. And in turn the Americans and Israelis will learn the lesson as well. Either Israel allows a Palestinians state or extends democratic rights to Arabs and Muslims, or it will go down in flames. Societies predicated on violent colonialism -- think South Africa -- always fail and eventually crumble. Israel cannot retain its societal cohesion much longer. Sharon knows this. Moreover, demographics will catch up to it in less than two short decades. Either the Israelis expel the Palestinians or they reach a political solution. Bet on the former. Sharon does not have much time. His plan is to make the Arab Middle East so hot that it will explode and provide him and the Likudites the excuse they need to "transfer" the Palestinians out of the West Bank and Gaza. Sharon's banking on that fact nobody will care much about a few million Palestinians if the oil wells are on fire and the West is faced with an economic meltdown. Breaking the Arabs up into mutually antagonistic divisions along ethnic and religious lines -- think Shia versus Sunni -- is a near perfect remedy for Sharon and the Israelis. Incidentally, around 60 percent of Israelis believe transferring -- i.e., ethnically cleansing -- Arabs is not only doable, but the preferred solution to the problem. That's what killing the blind cripple Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was all about -- turning up the flame on the cauldron. Sharon knows Hamas will resume suicide bombing -- big time -- and sooner before later. Sharon and the murderous Likudites need to have Israelis to die in great numbers from suicide bombings. It is another step in the ultimate plan for Greater Israel. It provides the Zionists with the excuse to kill more Palestinians and, eventually -- after the appropriate powder keg blows the lid off the Middle East -- it will allow Sharon and his demented clan of ultra-religious, ultra-nationalist, and ultra-insane settlers to finish what they started in 1948. But don't expect Philip Zelikow to say anything about it.
