Not that it's any of your business, but you may inform your wife that I've never had an abortion.
My mother was a nurse, though, and, in Brooklyn Hospital during her training there when abortion was illegal (and so was birth control in some states! and not only for Catholics, whose religion disapproved of it -- for everyone!), was scarred by seeing the butchery, some self-inflicted, of the poor and desperate women who were brought there, many to die of hemorrhaging or sepsis, leaving 8 or 10 children motherless, after botched illegal abortions. She saw this with her own eyes, many times.
And I've personally known women who've had "back alley" abortions. One who had one on her kitchen table, given by two men wearing masks, without anesthesia. She was lucky, one of the men was actually a doctor and gave her antibiotics. It was agony. They kept telling her that if she screamed they would leave. She never regretted having an abortion, despite the horror of the experience. I know quite a few women who have had legal abortions and never regretted it. All were sad, but none had regrets.
Safe abortions will always be available to the rich. The wives and daughters of politicians who vote against choice will be able to get an abortion even if your agenda of forced gestation prevails in the law. The poor, frightened, desperate, isolated, will try to scrape out their own uteruses, or have some clumsy, unclean amateur do it.
I know how you feel about what will happen to them. PRODEATH would describe it. Am I right? |
