Wow! I just tried and experiment and it worked! I'm using Laplink Gold ver 11.5 to transfer files from one computer to another. Normally it's from hard drive to hard drive. Laplink says though it may work, they do not support it.

This time I transferred a file from C:Old Computer to E:dvd/rw drive of new computer. Old computer is win98se and new is XP professional. I was able to transfer back and forth as a test and verified the file is there.

I need to know if there's a problem not using a burner like Roxio to transfer to a DVD? If there's no problem I'm thinking of backing up my old computer that has only a CD-RW drive to the larger capacity of the DVD of the new computer.

Laplink is a pretty cool program. Extremely easy to move files and folders. I doing this over the LAN settings. I could use USB if needed.

Any thoughts appreciated,

Dominick
