There are 2 companies competing in the same sectors, flash and cpu's. Yes, and as an AMD investor I think it's important to add some balance to your shall we say "somewhat optimistic view". One company has been wildly profitable for nearly 2 decades. The other has posted only a single profitable quarter in years. One company is awash in cash while the other is burdened with a sea of debt. One company has generated essentially zero profit over it's entire lifetime. Can you guess which one? One company's share price is essentially where it was 20 years ago. Hint: it's the same company as the one above. One company has almost limitless capacity to respond to demand upside while the other is stuck in a single moderate sized fab. One company hasn't shipped anywhere's near it's potential capacity for years. Hint: It's the same one again. While I'll leave it as an exercise for the prudent investor to figure out which is which, I will say that I am currently invested in both companies. I see Intel as a long term play and AMD as a profitable short term play when one does not have unrealistic expectations, and also as a potential speculative play. It's not impossible that they could turn things around.
