>>Hawk, haven't you noticed that the Palestinians routinely beg and demand internationalization of the conflict?
Only because they highly doubt the international community would become directly involved (because it doesn't).
I couldn't disagree more. The Palestinians want the international community directly involved because over fifty years of evidence tells them that the international community is on their side. Look at the evidence:
1) UNWRA. Their own special refugee agency, paid for by you and me, whose mandate (unlike UNHCR) is never to settle the refugees anywhere, just to feed and house them permanently. What a deal, eh? Naturally, every refugee family records ten births per woman, and no deaths, whether or not they occur.
2) The Sinai peacekeepers in 1967, who stayed only as long as the Egyptians wanted them to, then bye-bye!
3) UNFIL in Lebanon, docile servants of Hezbullah's wishes.
4) the UN monitors in Hebron, always ready to cite Israeli violations when the Pals use them for human shields
and most of all
5) the UN itself, which has passed literally hundreds of resolutions condemning Israel (the last one condemned the killing of Yassin) but never single one condemning Palestinian terrorism. Just the reverse, several resolutions back the legitimacy of the "armed struggle", Palspeak for suicide bombing.
So the Pals are justifiably confident that the international community would become directly involved, on terms that they would have no problem with. Fifty years of history backs up their confidence. |
