Even more reasons Conservatives are creepy! What really makes me uneasy about Harper and the new Conservative Party is the similarities between it and the republican party in the US. The conservative party is definitely more right wing than before. So many things sound the same. Tax cuts, stronger military, support for the mess in Iraq, smaller government, more privatization etc etc. Most reasonable and well reasoned sounding ambitions. Still, if you take a closer look at the republican party it will make your skin crawl! Read the republican party of Texas (home of the speaker of the house and president) party platform. These guys should not IMO be emulated and any Canadian party that associates itself with the right down south should be viewed with extreme suspicion. They (the influential Texas republicans) put a friendly face on it ( Bush) but literally seem to be the new nazis. washingtonmonthly.com
