Takuma Sato robbed of certain podium place by old Schumacher's techniques...

Takuma actually gave Ralf the necessary space to make the pass, yet Ralf knew he had 'overcooked' it and had to close the door on Sato... who he was already over the kerb trying to avoid the collision, yet Ralf kept on closing in....

I wonder if Ralf knows that F-1 is no NASCAR...?

Ralf to Blame for Crash, Says Sato

Sunday April 4th, 2004

Takuma Sato claimed he was the innocent party in his early collision with Ralf Schumacher in the Bahrain Grand Prix.

BAR-Honda's Sato, who equalled his best Formula One result in finishing fifth at the Bahrain International Circuit, clashed with Schumacher on lap seven as the German went spinning into the gravel.

Schumacher continued and brought his Williams home in seventh place before the pair were asked to appear before the race stewards to explain the incident.

But Sato claims Schumacher had left him with no room heading into turn two and said: "I knew we were side-by-side and going into turn two he shut the door and I had no room because of the kerb. Ralf didn't give me any space."

Sato was in a similar situation with David Coulthard later on but the pair left enough room to avoid a collision. The Japanese driver, whose teammate Jenson Button followed up his podium in Malaysia with another third place in Bahrain, was delighted to help BAR into joint third place in the Constructors' Championship.

"I'm very pleased to get some points for the team," Sato said. "I was involved in the development last year and the team has improved over the winter. Geoff (Willis) has made a superb car and it is all coming together."
