If it were me, I would rather go is Dec. than Sept. though it has been a few years.
As I recall, it is still to warm for me in Sept. - Daytime often greater than 90 deg.,though this was early Sept. Dec. far more temperate, with daytime range of about 70-85 Deg. I always pack some sort of ligth jacket for after dark, as it seems cool on the desert then.
