There are probably unknown quantities of computers that have possibly no human interaction - these are the embedded processors, some of the billions of micro-controllers that are sold each year.

It is probably unlikely that anyone inside an organisation could say where these processors are, or what they do, or how they are affected by the Year 2000 Date Problem.

It is possibly unlikely that the supplier of the product(s) containing the embedded processor(s) would be able to tell you within a reasonable time (24 hours) where these processors are, what they do, or how they are affected by the Year 2000 Date Problem.

That is why the legacy and departmental range of systems might be described as the VISIBLE area - you have a chance to convert code or change systems, if time is on your side.

The embedded processor problem is the INVISIBLE area - you may never know the size of the problem until it hits you at the turn of the century (or earlier, if you're very unlucky).
