Lots of folks are emotional. Things like soldiers being in Iraq cause them to support something they might not otherwise would support. Had these folks been provided accurate information pre-war, they wouldn't have supported it. Even Congress deserved accurate information, and didn't get it.

The solution in Iraq is a two state partitioning:

a) a complete southern Shiite nation, with its border north of the Tigris River to the Iran side (about the size of South Carolina); and,

b) a northern democracy connecting the Persian Gulf south of the Tigris, comprised of a close approximation of Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites; w/a carrot of some kind to offer jobs and homes to jobless and homeless Palestinians.

The tradeoff for allowing the new northern democractic nation access to the Gulf would be a share in oil revenues from the resources from the Kirkuk oil fields to the north.

Bingo! Democracy based in the Mid East; and a land that wishes to be predicated upon religious worship. The US would improve its image among Muslims by helping to establish the new theocracy; and the US would gain credit for also helping to establish a democracy in the Middle East. Its standing in the world improved.
