I am now doing what I always do before market opens (old interview by CNN of yours truly - notice how I strive to see the brighter side of darkness :0) cnnstudentnews.cnn.com

HONG KONG, China (CNN) -- Jacked into a networked killing zone, Jay Chen can play up to eight hours of "Unreal Tournament" at one go.

But his game slipped the day his new computer arrived without a sound card.

"These online games -- if you cannot listen, if you cannot hear the footsteps, you get killed," says Chen. "That was my difficulty. I was getting killed all the time!"

So he contacted the help desk and asked them to send over a tech support team.

"They were two hours late, so that means on a workday we have to sit at home and wait for them. They come, they're not able to fix the problem, make another appointment again. We're talking weeks of wasted time."

The problem was eventually fixed, but it left a nasty mark -- the dreaded error message.

"'There is not enough memory available to run this program, and I have 768 megabytes in my machine," says Chen.

He can no longer log online without first shutting down his computer.

...

... Despite his frustrating help desk episode, Jay Chen says he would buy from the same vendor again. He's convinced that there's no better alternative.

But perhaps there's a hidden perk to owning a bungled box.

"My wife can't use this computer at all," says Chen. "So I have this computer to myself."
