BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee approved the nomination of Spanish academic Jose Manuel Gonzalez-Paramo to the European Central Bank's executive board by 11 votes to four, with two abstentions

He replaces fellow Spaniard Eugenio Domingo Solans on the rate-setting board from May 31, having edged out the front runner for the seat, the Belgium National Bank's Peter Praet
