There are probably unknown quantities of computers that have possibly no human interaction - these are the embedded processors, some of the billions of micro-controllers that are sold each year. It is probably unlikely that anyone inside an organisation could say where these processors are, or what they do, or how they are affected by the Year 2000 Date Problem.

"Although computer experts have done much to promote awareness of some of the technical issues surrounding the Year 2000 problem, some issues appear to have been neglected. One such issue is with "embedded systems" or other equipment that may be date dependent, but not programmed like a personal or mainframe computer.
