Hmmm. I wonder if Bush will name one of the Kurd leaders, Jalal Talabani or Masud Barzani, to replace Bremer.

The Kurds have been governing themselves since the no-fly zone was imposed in '91, they've got a good handle on the northern oil and have a military force, one geared for fighting Turks, already in place which could be complemented by both US forces and a continuation of the Iraqi new military recruitment campaign.

My guess is they'd probably appoint this new president who'd lead, with a Saddam-like hand, for a one or two-year period, at which time there'd be elections. This would buy the US the time it needs to establish its long-term military presence and ink the deals for the Bush insiders at the feeding table.

Just a thought. Anyone else got any ideas on what they'll do?
