I read a little about their product. It's basically omeprazole (Prilosec) that is designed to work immediately. Exisiting PPIs are all time release and designed not to be absorbed in the stomach because an acid environment is (paradoxically) a problem for the drug. They have somehow combined an antacid with omeprazole so that the drug can be absorbed immediately.

So I guess the market they are going after is people with intermittent reflux. People with consistent reflux can just take a PPI each day. But for people with intermittent heartburn, existing PPI's don't really work quickly enough to give relief.

I'm assuming that this isn't initially going to be an OTC product. It's going to be competing with OTC Prilosec though, as well as Zantac/Pepcid/Tagamet and straight antacids. It's a big overall market so they may only need a small niche to do pretty well.

Sort of product that is going to need a big pharma to market it though. Wonder what their IP is like?
