Even were I black I would not have done it. Vast numbers of Blacks themselves are very formal when initially meeting. But after getting to know one another, it would not be odd to hear one endearingly say to another "you betta git outta heah and leeve me 'lone." Of course the person doesn't mean this at all. But you will not hear this in an initial meeting. The context does not permit it. You are just being dishonest, refusing to see the complexity that I have placed right under your wicked nose in the form of this language. You refuse to see it because you are a racist and you are projecting your racism upon me.

See above. Surely, had we a good deal of time to grow close to her and overcome the initial awkwardness of our meeting, we would have enjoyed some informal celebration. But it takes a great deal of time between blacks and whites because the two groups bring to their initial exchanges a lot of hangups due to an appalling history. Once the thing gets out, its just fine.
