Ad analysis: MoveOn PAC Tue Apr 6, 6:49 AM ET
By Mark Memmott, USA TODAY
MoveOn PAC, a political action group that opposes President Bush (news - web sites), begins airing a new TV ad Wednesday. It is the second MoveOn PAC ad that uses charges made by Richard Clarke, the former counterterrorism chief in the Clinton and both Bush administrations, to question the current president's anti-terrorism policies. The group says it is spending $200,000 to run the ad on CNN through Saturday. A look at the 30-second ad, called "Clarke-Iraq (news - web sites):"
Scene: Photo of the commission investigating the 9/11 attacks.
Narrator: "When George Bush testifies, here's what he should say ..."
Scene: A photo of Bush as he is speaking, microphones in front of his face. Words on the screen: "President Bush's voice is being imitated."
Bush imitator: "Before 9/11, I was obsessed with Iraq. Then I used 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq. So now we're less safe than we were before."
Scene: Clarke, taking an oath before the commission.
Bush imitator: "It's just like Richard Clarke said ..."
Scene (words appear): "Former White House counter-terrorism chief Richard Clarke, Washington Post 3/28/04.
Voice (not Clarke, as his words scroll across screen and an American flag appears): " 'By invading Iraq, the President of the United States has greatly undermined the war on terrorism.' "
Scene: Photo of the president.
Narrator (as these words appear over the president's face): "George Bush: A failure of leadership."
