Greg, I know that it inconsistent, but no more than those that pick, and choose, the passages that support their personal views. The parts of the Bible that are accounts of events actually witnessed by the authors, are accepted by me as the truth of what they saw. It is the parts that have no proof of witness that I cannot totally believe. I also cannot believe that Jesus would walk the Earth with the message of love, and peace, and using the golden rule as the only necessary commandment after the first one, without being against the hatred, and persecution, of any group of people, including the Jews.
I strongly believe that any human can believe in God as the power that caused the universe, and everything in it to be created without resorting to the Bible as proof. The evidence is everywhere if one will but take time to see. Jesus was, definitely, a major force in the history of mankind, and He was witnessed performing miracles. That, with an event in my own life, has convinced me of His deity, and His being a positive force for good on the planet. |
