SKerry Kerry

In an NPR interview, Bob Edwards asks Kerry what should be done about Al Sadr.

KERRY: “Well uh it’s interesting to hear that when they shut the newspaper that belongs to a legitimate voice in Iraq, well let me change the term legitimate, when they shut a news paper that belongs to a voice because he has clearly taken on a far more radical tone in recent days and aligned himself with both Hammas and Hezbollah which is a sort of a terrorist alignment, so it creates its own set of needs in order to deal with the possible future spread of terrorism. At the same time If it is unaccompanied by a broader set of moves to try and broaden our own base in Iraq I just think it asks for great difficulties…”

Uh, “Sort of a terrorist alignment”? Good grief. Is this the kind of decisive thinking we need in the war against terrorism? Mr. SKerry, That paper is inciting violence, which is not protected speech anywhere. Mr. Skerry, here is what you should have said:

Well al Sadr has demonstrated that he is out to kill Americans and American troops and that cannot stand. He heeds to be dealt with swiftly. Since he is wanted for murder by the Iraqi authorities, Iraqi’s, should move to capture him if possible, and with support from the US and this might minimize any backlash. But if the Iraqi’s cannot deal with Sadr in the next few days, then we have to take all necessary measures to either capture or kill him. He leaves us little choice.
