Just look at the facts in Iraq rather than spin them.
The only debate is how lack of planning, lies and international cooperation of the neocons has finally caught up to them.

Clearly, if we had had a Karzai type government more or less prepared to take over, and a broad coalition including Arab-speaking troops (requiring concessions Bushie oilmen refused to make) and a real moral reason for invading we would be in far better shape and GW Bush might get re-elected.

As it is, the Bushies in charge are both spinning and refusing to get it. They utterly refuse to admit their mistakes or les. That is arrogant and harmful. The strategy (or lack thereof) they took was wrong, unrealistic and based on lies. Maybe some of them believe those lies, or pretend to, but most people don't. It is a sad day for America and does indeed remind one of the Johnson years with Vietnam. I pity the poor troops who long to come home but now won';t be able to even after a year in-country.
