First of all, from what I understand, Mossaedeq's government was not legally "elected", he was appointed as Prime Minister after the former (pro-western) occupant of that position was murdered. Second, the Shah as bad as he was, nowhere as bad as Hitler - or for that matter Khomeini - or Saddam. Indeed, Communists and a few Socialists did fight Franco and Hitler in Spain. They also disappeared after the Soviet Union signed a Non-Agression Pact with Hitler, carving up Poland between them; and eventually leaving Britain (Churchill - Conservative Prime Minister), to fight on alone till the summer of 1941.
