I just got home from Tucson and a visit with my 91 year old father. I was working with him to make him more comfortable with the internet. I got him to start using email the last time I was there. He's still pretty intimidated and easily befuddled by anomalies but he's doing it despite the struggle to walk to the computer room in his assisted living community and despite his intimidation. Use it or lose it, I say.

I was reminded of this by your mention of touch typing. He can touch type on a typewriter but types with one finger on the computer because the peripheral keys like the apostrophe aren't in the same place as on his typewriter and little things like than affect his confidence. Geez, it's a bitch getting that old.

I feel sorry for baby-boomers who don't get with it. They still have years left and they will age faster and become out of it faster if some of those years aren't spent on a computer.
