Partisan Media Salivates For John Kerry Victory
April 8, 2004
by Bruce Walker
How anxious are Leftists to see John Kerry win? How biased are the Leftist corporations whose "coverage" of the campaign does not qualify as campaign contributions within the meaning of the much heralded campaign finance "reforms"? Consider the "Politics - Elections" Yahoo News on April 7th.
These are the "news stories" in order: "Kerry Says He Would Cap Federal Spending" (with a photo of Kerry looking, presumably, presidential); "Kerry: Iraq a Great Failure of Judgment" (with a photo of Kerry jabbing his finger in the air) then follows another news story (I will talk about that story in a minute.)
After that particular story, there is yet another "news story" with the title of the piece "Bush's June 30 Iraq handover date becomes hotly debated in US" (So this presumably has at least a photo of President Bush or the president's words, right? No. The photo is of John Kerry straining to hear a questioner and the first lines read: Democratic presidential contender John Kerry and some Republicans are challenging...".)
Not until we reach the fifth "news story" do we not find the lovable mug of the septuagenarian senator from Heinz. But fear not! The senator from Heinz is not being ignored! The article begins "The Treasury Department's inspector general is looking into the agency's decision to analyze presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's tax proposals." Whew! Almost missed an opportunity to mention the senator from Heinz.
What photo is deemed suitable for this article about the Treasury Department reviewing how John Kerry's tax proposals were analyzed? A photo - and I am not making this up! - of an Iraqi child burning a photograph of President Bush!
Then the Yahoo "Politics - Election" version of Pravda returns to predictable patterns. The next fast breaking news item? "Kerry Vows a Return to Credible U.S. Budgeting" (including a very serious looking old man with eyes carefully staring into space.)
Following that earth shattering revelation, the "Politics - Election" section moves on to a completely different subject "MoveOn Staffer Moves on to Kerry Campaign" (The appropriate photo, naturally, is a photo of Kerry shaking hands in a crowd. Again, I am not making this up: it is too surreal for anyone to make up.)
Next another completely unrelated topic "Maverick US presidential hopeful calls for Bush impeachment" (The photo of is Ralph Nader, the "maverick" who has stated that his sole purpose in running is to defeat President Bush - thanks again, campaign finance "reform.")
Nine stories down, the nonpartisan and impartial folks at Yahoo's "Politics - Election" section found it newsworthy to mention that President Bush had advocated a job training initiative, but right after that story, the tenth "news story" is "Nader Calls for Bush to Be Impeached" (What photo goes with this "news story"? Yet another photo of Ralph Nader.) Hmm...when Ralph Nader vents his spleen at the president, that counts as two separate news stories?
Now, if you recall, I mentioned one story - the third story on the list - which I was going to discuss in a minute. The minute is up. The title to this story is "Beer Magnate Peter Coors Runs for Senate." This is, actually, political news. So what photo did the people who patched together the Yahoo "Politics - News" section select to help voters understand this article?
The photo linked to this article is...a photo of John Kerry! Now Kerry is not even mentioned in the body of the article. Coors do not say a word about him or about President Bush. The article does not even pretend to deal with the presidential election. Why in the name of common sense did anyone believe that their montage of Kerry campaign photos had any application to a Colorado senate campaign announcement?
Leftists do not care about news. They do not care about facts. They do not care about ethics or decency. Leftists, regardless of which demigod they worship - Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Mussolini, Castro or the latest liar or latest thug - are interested only in the surreal and shocking glorification of their Fuhrer, their Vozd, their Leader. The Leader de jour? Kerry.
