"A stream of hundreds of cars carrying women, children and elderly headed out of the city after Marines announced they would be allowed to leave. Families pleaded to be allowed to take out men, and when Marines refused, some entire families turned back."

What the hell is this about? I can't believe I am reading that. Why would they not be allowed to leave. It sure sends messages to the already suspicious Iraqi public that the US might be planning to kill the men. Combine this with the images of children dying during the battles and it is no wonder the Iraqi public does not trust the US. I think a former British minister said the US has to start acting like peacekeepers and not warriors.

Not allowing the men to leave is the kind of tactic I would expect from some third world dictator (like Saddam), not the US military.

Unbelievable!
