>>but then I have the flexibility to pay off the rest of the mortgage at any time if I want to<<
that makes a big difference ...

When does anyone NOT have that ability?
With the loan I am getting, I can send in an extra $5 or an extra $1500 and no matter what it is it AUTOMATICALLY comes off the principle and the amt owed next month is automatically smaller.

New statement every month saying what interest is owed. I can pay that or any amt above that. Anthing above goes straigt off the principle. If for whatever reason I only want to pay interest, that is all I have to pay.
