Go look back to all Depressions and see if anyone was exactly like the previous. No. Every new Depression has its own characteristics.

The characteristic of the one we -all the world- are going through, recovery from which is called "a jobless recovery", and the economy wouldn't be recovering unless it had depressed to be recovered from, is a Depression minus the pain.

Which means, pain not being felt, it doesn't mean we haven't had a Depression or a financial Collapse. I point to a post-operatory trauma.

Another point:

If I understood your reply correctly:

1) To understand a Great Depression one must be American. 2) Only Americans study economic history.
3) A Great depression is an American economic phenomenon.

This strikes me as to centered on the US and I don't think many people would agree with that.
