ACF, I assumed that citizens don't take such an oath, which is why I mentioned only the president, senators and congressors.
The oath is a bit of a militaristic "I was just following orders" serfdom oath.
I haven't had to swear an oath to anyone. Nobody is above me. I am above the law. I comply with laws according to my determination of their value and threat.
Nobody makes a law which I must obey, forcing me to take up arms against some purported enemy. If they do, they identify themselves as the enemy. They would find me taking up arms and pointing them in the direction of my choice.
If I take up arms, it will only be at the behest of my own moral and ethical framework, determined by me according to my own free will, limited though that may be in its perceptions, and questionable though it might be in its freedom within its twisted double strand chains of randomly selected DNA. I trust my own messy mind against that of others who have their own purposes, which I usually find unethical, faulty, greedy and destructive of my interests, especially when they are entering the realm of force.
Temporal lawfulness is awfulness. A lowest common denominator.
Even now, the USA is working on a new conscription system, which is an Alice in Wonderland, Orwellian approach to freedom. "To defend freedom, we need to enslave you. We shall force you to kill or be killed as ordered by us, without reference to your own mind."
Conscripts shall chant as lawfully instructed for the Sergeant Major:
"I am lawfully in the service and shall bear arms as lawfully ordered by the legally appointed Presidential edict against Enemies of the State as identified for me by my master, without reference to my mind, my ethics, my morals, my self-interests, my family, my friends. I am a Mindless Zombie and shall obey. I am a serf in serfdom. Freedom and democracy have lawfully determined that I shall not be an agent of my mind which I hereby abjure. Hail to the Chief! I am free at last." Zomby.
That's essentially the oath you've already taken. It gives me the creeps.
So, where USA sovereignty is sharing a commons with the rest of the world, who decides what happens? Is it the indivisible sovereignty of the American law, or do the UnAmerican Aliens have a say too, thereby splitting the immutable sovereignty to which you have sworn?
