I recommend the NY Times story today about the people trying to buy inexpensive houses in the Poconos and commute to jobs in NYC. A disastrous plan for most, it seems. Those who haven't been foreclosed yet may be as gasoline prices go up. Imagine driving over a thousand miles a week to work! But such is the power of the idea of "owning your own home."
