Re: It is not popular to some - but we as Amerivcans need to get our head out of butts and develope our oil sand resources and Alaskan Oil resources. The greenies are against it, and I'll bet half of them don't even know what the Alyeska pipeline looks like or where it is located.

This is clearly not the answer. We currently have the ability to create cars which get 60 miles to the gallon. If all cars had that ability, the demand for oil would decrease, as would then gas prices. Curbing consumption is probably the most important thing we can do not only for our wallets, but for the environment. This should not be a Democrat/Republican issue.....the health of the environment should be a primary concern of everyone.

We come to SI because we are invested in companies which innovate and do things which nobody has done before. Why don't we look for better solutions instead of simply propagating the same old thinking of "drill another well?"

Tax incentives should be given to those who buy products which curb their consumption of gas. This would create an immediate market for these products and the companies would have to respond in kind. Right now, they are putting out one car at a time only because they are forced to by progressive states such as CA which in a few years will mandate that a certain % of cars sold in that state will have to be hybrids.

We need new ideas and solutions; not more of the same old thinking on this issue. And using pejorative terms like "greenie" for people who care about the environment is neither useful nor productive.
