Lps will promote killing and inactivation of the leukocytes (mainly, the neutrophils), they could suffer like any other cells, especially inmature ones from newborns (lots of decrease or absent functions to begin with on newborns leukocytes, even more with the more premature ones). Once you blocked and inactivate lps, not only the killing function improved, but also the disposition via catabolism to an inert form (actually, to an "edible" nutritious form) happens, but the survival and recrutiment of neutrophils improved!

We are talking bpi, it seems to be!!!
