I've about quit reading this thread, and may quit entirely. As a result of the last year's events, with the help of the debate on this thread, I have:
1. joined the Quaker Church
2. become active, organizing local vigils. Last Sunday, in celebration of Easter, a group of us walked down a busy street in Anchorage, carrying signs that read: War is Not the Answer, Iraq = Vietnam, Bring the Troops Home, Patriot for Peace. By about a 10 to 1 ratio, the responses were positive. We'll do this, every Sunday.

About 2% of Americans are convinced pacifists, and about 20% are convinced militarists. On this thread, those two groups joust. I think I'll put my efforts, from now on, into addressing the vast middle group, locally.

Thank you all, for helping me come to this decision.
