Try a search here on SI. Chande's Vidya is one. VAR is in MSWIN. John Sugas has done some work here on them. They are basically an exponential MA with a volatility function to slow or accellerate speed.

MSWIN has a VOL MA which adjust for volume. Some of the many reasons, MSWIN should be in everyones' toolbox.
