RainyDayWoman, minimally, and with all prudence, in response to the August 6th PDB, Bush could have ordered two actions:
1) Have interceptor jets at locations close to the two prime targets--New York City and Washington, DC--on a heightened state of alert. As it was, the jets dispatched to intercept came from far away locations compared to where they could have come from. Order of the President could have solve that!
2) Noting there were ongoing 70 investigations, Bush could have ordered that Rice overview (or he could have himself), on a daily basis, the status of those respective investigations. This would have especially been prudent given the FBI was operating under an acting-director.
The last thing Bush should have done was to allow his presidential spokesperson to note publicly that the August 6th PDB was entitled "attack the US" instead of "attack in the US." But, on the other hand, this Administration is full of lies, distortions, omissions and perversions of truth. Sad, but true!
Anyway, if you wanna defend Bush go ahead and try it! Soon you'll realize it's gotten to the point where this simply isn't possible anymore. |
