With inflation and interest rates on the rise (note this morning's latest data), the smart companies are those that already financed their expansion, either through stock, cash, or low interest loans. Though some investors fear a glut in capacity, it's clear that anyone just starting to plan for a new facility will face higher finance costs, and those will translate into higher fixed costs for any product.

Many of the inflationary costs can be attributed to the cost of Iraq, just as a great deal of the inflation of the 1970's was attributable to Vietnam. The similarities are worrisome.
