HI Skin,
Two points to make this morning:
1. Given whats happened in iraq after our removal of saddam one could make a rational argument that we should have left things alone. Perhaps the europeans had a clearer vision of what would happen than we did and it wasnt all just business interests.
2. Having said that what we did pulled the cork out of the iraq bottle. Now we are in a situation where we must do everything in order not to lose. What we are in is not yet an Amercian vs Arab war--its really an arab civil war with the bad guys being the old baathists allied with iranian backed shiaa terrorist and al quaeda backed sunnis. We must do everything in our power to bring these folks down without causing too much collateral damage(easier said than done). Perhaps the key to an american success lies with Sistani and and islamic federal multi-cultural uniquely iraqi democracy of sorts. Here is where Bush will have to think outside of the box and accept and even promote a non-american version of a democracy. If we can live with Abdulla and Mubararek we need also to live with the true spiritual leader of iraqs shiaa.
