My understanding is that at the root of the problem is a resurgence of extremist Islam. The truth is that we are at war not so much with "terror" in general as with its incarnation which threatens us presently - namely, the extremist Islam. Not - I repeat - not with Islam in general, but with the latest incarnation of its extremist interpretation.

We are in Iraq - to a large extent - because (imo) we do not trust the Muslim world to be able to reign in their own extremists. I think if Bush and Co would stop using "politically correct" definitions, they would have a much easier time explaining their actions.

I don't believe that people all over the world would be unable to distinguish between "Islam" and "Extremist militant Islam". Those who would pretend not to understand would be be liars. Most moderate Muslims would see that we are for real, and that we are on their side - since they would suffer the most in case extremists manage to become their rulers.
