In 2000, we fell through that hole for the first time since Grover Cleveland. Time to fill it in.

Fill it in with what? The mess would have been considerably more intractable without the Electoral College. With the inherent uncertainties of the ballot, as we learned in 2000, the EC provides a very workable mechanism for determining who gets a state's votes.

As an aside, the '60 election was just as "smelly" as the 2000. Difference was that Nixon graciously conceded the election to Kennedy.
