Noticed the reference to H. Seldon. You should pick up the latest
in the Foundation series, posthumously endorsed by Asimov's
heirs. I forget the title, but it has Foundation in it and was written by
Gregory Benford, prof. of Physics at U. Cal. Irvine, a great guy,
and (I might add), a rare college republican.

In it, he expands upon the time when Harry is gathering data for his
theory. Since Benford is a better Physicist than Asimov (my opinion)
he includes little hints on how the theory is formulated. It's also a
page turner.
