Re: Jewish voters
Jews i am sure took note of bushes speech preceding the press conference on tuesday. He mentioned Jews as a target of bin laden and took a healthy pause before he added christians and good moslems to bin ladens terror list. Later in the speech he mentioned Danny Pearl and said he was killed "only because he was a Jew" (Paraphrase.)
Next day he embraces what ultimately could amount to sharon's future annexation of a piece of the WB.
If its jewish votes he is after, its the younger jewish retirees in Florida that may deliver him that state. It is unlikely he can win NY, CA, NJ, CT or any other states with large jewish votes. Perhaps there are other smaller states where a shift of jewish votes could make the difference. If so i dont know of any offhand.
Getting back to the sharon thing. I think he was telling the terrorists is that there is a price to pay for terrorism after 9/11. The belief that arafat was complicit in killing americans on the west bank and in iraq in recent months probably is what caused the 180 by bush on this issue. Mubarek must have known this when he left bush on monday. The fact that there is a price to pay is a good thing. Mike
