I'm using the Philips CDD 2600 - its been flawless. Got it for $340 (including shipping) through Instantauction. It's a white box product, though. So unless you're pretty software savvy, you should go for one of the bundles. Should be able to pick one up for about $400, including software (not sure about the SCSI adapter). The HP Easywriter is a comparable product - double speed write/6x read. The reason it's so comparable is that HP uses the Philips CDD 2600 mechanism. An honorable mention go to Smart and Friendly - it's supposed to be pretty good. Don't waste money on a quad speed writer - unless you've got a blazing system and hard drive, you'll rarely be able to keep up and the faster you write these things, the more problems you're likely to have reading them on other drives.

Sony has an EIDE CD writer out that's very cheap - haven't seen reviews on it, though. Anyhow, a CD writer makes a great companion to the Syjet - what else you gonna back your cartridges up with? Tape? I think the Syjet is too good for tape - let the Jaz owners use tape.

Regards,

Joe
