<<<I'm strongly against the death penalty; I believe it's un-American to force a women to carry a pregnancy to term against her will; and I am strongly against involuntary conscription.>>>
Some people will say that you are left of the center in your views, but regardless, I think most of us cluster toward the center.
There is a down side to everything, but I think debate is healthy. There is always abuse of anything that is good. I would of course like to restrict debate to where it wouldn't upset me. But that is really foolish. Everyone has different levels of tolerance.
<<<think the enemy is manipulated many of them into fighting against their own best interests. They are becoming the enemy's stooges. >>>
I think overestimating our enemies are just as dangerous, if not more so, than underestimating their abilities.
I think we should use them to make ourselves stronger. We should get our priorities in order, strengthen our defenses, and be ready for emergencies.
These terrorist, in my opinion, do not rise to the level that we need to respect their abilities.
We have to distinguish between organized terrorists and isolated angry people.
The organized terrorists are much easier to defend against. OBL may have been a billionaire, but how much is $1B going to buy these day. In any case where is he going to do his banking. Anything to do with banking has an audit trail. Try cashing a check without an ID that can be traced back to you.
Without a modern day communications system, how is he going to organize anything. But, beyond that, if he does not have a real message (and he doesn't), how can he inspire his troops.
Of course the people that he manages to get killed and their relatives may not agree, but this guy (OBL) is not going to significantly change anything.
The crazy unorganized people is another matter.
The danger to us, is that we become a closed society because of OBL - that we start using his methods - that we start fighting each other. That is a much bigger danger to us. |
