Presstek And Nilpeter A/S Of Denmark Enter Into Agreement For Use Of Presstek's Pearl Direct Imaging Technology

HUDSON, N.H., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Nilpeter A/S Of Denmark and Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST) today announced the signing of an agreement for Nilpeter to utilize Presstek's proprietary PEARL(R) Direct Imaging technology on a high-speed rotary label printing press called the OFFSET 3300. Nilpeter is a leading producer of specialized web offset presses for printing high quality labels, supplying the European, U.S. and global markets. Presstek will supply a special PEARL-based digital imaging system which will image Presstek's thermal plates directly on the press plate cylinder. The OFFSET 3300 and the imaging system will be shown for the first time at Chicago based Labelexpo in September.

Lars Eriksen, President of Nilpeter A/S, said, "This partnership between Presstek and Nilpeter will result in new opportunities in the offset label printing market for Nilpeter. The shortened make-ready times, the reduction of start-up waste label stock and the simplicity of operation will provide significant savings for our customers who use this new system."

Bob Verrando, President and COO of Presstek, Inc., said, "This marks the first application of our PEARL-based imaging technology to a web press. We are very pleased that our initiation into the web market is with a partner of the quality and capability of Nilpeter. We look forward to the relationship and to benefiting from Nilpeter's 75 years of business experience."

The Nilpeter press is a web press that has the capability of printing images of variable repeat lengths. In order to accomplish this variable capability, the press is designed to allow the plate and blanket cylinder to be removable as a cassette. Plate and blanket cylinders of various diameters are interchangeable allowing the press to print variable repeat lengths. Presstek's PEARL direct imaging system has been adapted to this new press environment in a unique manner that results in shortened start-up times and less make-ready on the
part of the press operator.

Presstek, Inc., founded in 1987, has developed PEARL, a patented and proprietary non-photographic, toxic-free, digital imaging and printing plate technology for the printing and graphic arts industries on a worldwide basis. PEARL's thermal laser diode system is capable of imaging various types of Presstek printing plates either off-press or on-press to produce high quality, full-color lithographic printed materials.

With headquarters in Slagelse, Denmark, Nilpeter manufactures a range of narrow web presses from 8 1/2" to 13" in width in flexo, UV flexo, letterpress, screen, and offset formats. Nilpeter's U.S. sales, service, and engineering operations are located at 3590 NW 54th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
