2:00PM Kopin drops on wider than anticipated Q1 loss (KOPN) by Michael Baron
NEW YORK (CBS.MW0 -- Shares of Kopin (KOPN) lost more than 16 percent to $5.33 after the Taunton, Mass., microdisplay firm missed Wall Street's loss estimate for the first quarter. The company attributed the results to lower initial yields related to transition of its legacy monochrome microdisplays to its new color filter CyberDisplay products and additional marketing and technical support activities as customer uptake of the new displays was faster than expected. Kopin lost $3.4 million, or 5 cents per share, on revenue of $22.4 million in the March quarter. The average estimate of three analysts polled by Thomson First Call was for a loss of a penny per share. Looking ahead, the company forecast sequential revenue growth of 5 percent for the second quarter. The performance prompted a downgrade of the stock to 'market perform' from Adams, Harkness and Hill.
