Red Bend Software Announces Expanded Capabilities in New Version of Mobile Software for Over-the-Air Updates
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2004-- Extends Technology Leadership with Features to Handle Increased Complexity in Software and Firmware Updating
Red Bend Software announced a new version of its vCurrentMobile software, incorporating significant updates for the increasingly complex requirements of the mobile market. The new features extend the advanced technology benefits of the software for reducing device down time, providing secure and verifiable flash updating and optimizing the overall over-the-air updating process.
"Over-the-air technologies will need to manage larger applications, more complex infrastructures and orders of magnitude increases in sizes of images being used in a variety of mobile devices," said Phillip Redman, vice president, Gartner, Inc. "Device manufactures and service providers require fast, easy and cost efficient methods to provide their customers with access to the applications and services they need today and will want in the future."
"The new version of vCurrentMobile builds on our commitment to our customers to provide the best technology for over-the-air updating for mobile devices," said Yoram Salinger, CEO, Red Bend. "With Siemens mobile as a new customer and on-going partnerships with Openwave and IXI Mobile, Red Bend continues to build on the momentum we have in a market that places a premium on the impact of cost and the users' experience."
vCurrentMobile's major new features include:
-- Patent pending methods to improve re-flashing time by 50-75% - significantly reducing device downtime and improving the overall user experience.
-- Patent pending security feature for authenticating an "Approved for Release" signature of the new version prior to the actual re-flashing of the mobile device (no part of the device is changed before the new version is authenticated). This ensures all phases of the flash update are secured and verified.
-- Support for "Intelligent Matching" that creates optimized delta packages for multi-file applications with complex hierarchies.
-- Advanced optimized generating techniques that ensure minimum time is required for creating delta files, even for large device images and applications.
-- Minimized RAM usage technology specially designed for low-end devices.
The new version continues to improve on Red Bend's patented technology to create the smallest possible update files (up to 10 times smaller than other methods) in the shortest amount of time, dramatically cutting development time and effort. The vCurrent technology has already been proven in hundreds of millions of updates. In addition, the ongoing experience with Red Bend's partners and commitment to standards has significantly improved the ease of integration with MDM systems, creating complete solutions for device manufactures and operators.
Red Bend Software's vCurrent Mobile software is available immediately. Costs depend on configuration.
