I didn't hear that the Israelis intended to leave the Gaza settlements standing. When the Israelis evacuated Yamit in the Sinai, they destroyed it. Destroying the Gaza settlements would keep the settlers from trying to return, which considering the temperment of these settlers, might be prudent.

But if the Pals get them, they will destroy them. These settlement houses are hated Jewish houses, and they will destroy them with glee. When the Jordanians took Gush Etzion in 1948, they destroyed it. When they took the Old City, they tried to destroy all vestiges of Jewish life in it. They destroyed 53 synagogues. Same mentality - and the Jordanians were civilized, compared to the Gazans. Wait and you will see.
