Fri 16 Apr 2004 News Release
Mr. Paul Reynolds reports
REDWATER NATURAL GAS WELL TO COMMENCE COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION -- BELLE
FOURCHE UPDATE
Athlone Minerals has joined with three other partners and drilled a Wabamum
test at 11-7-58-23 W4M in the Redwater area of Alberta. The well was
drilled to a total depth of 946 metres. The well was cased and log
evaluation identified natural gas in three zones. The well was tested in
the lowest zone, the basal quartz, and flowed at a rate of 250 thousand
cubic feet to 300 thousand cubic feet per day.
This well will be tied into a gas pipeline shortly and begin delivering
natural gas. Athlone paid 11.9 per cent of the completed well costs to earn
a 13.75-per-cent working interest and Athlone's participation opened the
possibility to other prospects in the area.
Athlone further announces that it and its partners have drilled nine wells
and tested four wells over three townships of land in the Belle Fourche
area of southeast Saskatchewan. The company's working interest is 75 per
cent before payout and 50 per cent after payout. These wells were drilled
to test the potential of three shallow gas zones, the deepest of which was
tested extensively and deemed to be unproductive. Gas was tested in the
middle shallow zone and flowed at initial rates of 200 thousand cubic feet
per day. This zone requires additional production testing to verify the
extent of the reservoir and, if successful, will indicate an area of
interest for further drilling. Dependent upon rig availability and weather,
it is anticipated that this work will be completed within four weeks.
