Good friend of mine from MO has raised cattle for years. Now that he is retired from his regular job it is a lot easier on him (his wife is a big help).

But to the point...Cattle in Mo are high as hell now and so is feed. If you go through through a real dry spell like he has several times since I've known him it cost a bunch to feed them and that in turn eats up your profit.

If you are just talking one cow for tax status i doubt that it would concern you. I believe he usually averages between 150-200 head on his farm.
