JDN....If your family has been in the area for some period of time, you will probably find more about your Mothers line as well. Area histories, other family genealogies with the same lines, etc. Marriage licenses or banns in church records in the earlier days really help with these lines.
I only knew a few of their names on the 5 generation, 16 name pedigree sheet when I started, and now know all 16, and in many cases, many, many more beyond.
But my intent isn't to know just the names and dates, but rather, want to know as much as I can find out, what were their thoughts, or what were their lives like in the time period they lived. What decisions did they make that not only changed their lives, but ended up influencing my own.
